I hope you enjoy my blog which will be all about vintage styling, music, people, and clothes. I hope to inspire and motivate people to be who they are and show them just how beautiful the vintage life is.

The half moon manicure began way back in the 1920’s and remained popular through the 1940’s. It was popular then to leave the half moon at the base of the nail as well as the tip of the nail bare (or colored with lighter color). I love to use white instead of leaving my moon bare. It makes my fingers pop more and looks more glamerous! This is my favorite type of nail design to do. It screams vintage and its so sophisticated and timeless. Dita Von Teese swears by it and you also won’t catch her nails any other way. Marlen Dietrich and Marilyn Monroe were both seen with it. You can see Marilyn’s nail design in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes in the very beginning when she is in her red dress.

The first thing I do is paint my nails with a base/top coat and I let it dry for about 15-20 min. I use Sally Hansen Fortifying Base & Top Coat. I like to let it dry for that long to avoid bubbles on my nails (bubbles are the worst and form when you paint your nails too soon with polishes).

After I paint my nails with a nice white polish. I like to use Sinful Colors in “Snow Me White”. I apply two coats of this polish for a nice bright color and I let it dry for 10-15 min.
.
After, I apply Sally Hansen’s Dries Instantly to my now white nails and wait 10 min. This polish dries your nails really fast for a faster and better protection. It also quickens the time for drying and allows you to move into the next step faster.

Now after its dry with Sally Hansen’s Nail Art Pen in Red, you draw a semi circle or half moon. You measure how much white or bare you would like to show. You ca also use the pen to fill in the sides of the nail that the brush may not cover. Make sure to go over twice with the pen for a dark color.

You can follow these picture methods below (these are methods with other colors but still helpful):

After you have drawn the red moon, apply red polish below the circle. I use Sinful Color in “Go Go Girl”. And just like the picture above paint below the circle line in the red polish.
After applying two coats of red, apply the Sally Hansen Dries Instantly and wait 10-15 min. And voilà a beautiful half moon vintage manicure. The easiest way I know. Using page reinforcements is also a helpful tool but its not as neat. I have had difficutly using this method and I often get angry at how the moon turns out. You can see the edges. But I hope this has been helpful and I hope you enjoyed reading!

Just bought “Fragments: Poems, Intimate Notes, and Letters” by Marilyn Monroe.

This book is for anyone who truly wants to know the depth and complexity of Marilyn Monroe’s feelings. I can’t wait to start reading it! I am a HUGE Marilyn Monroe fan. I would have done anything for a chance to meet my one true idol. Everytime I see her on TV I get so happy and feel so much love. When I watch her documentaries I cry and feel so heartbroken that such a beautiful legend was taken from this world so unjusticley. I got this book from Barns & Noble. Can’t wait to finish this book!

Sentimental Journey is a album that Emmy Rossum sang in honor of her favorite songs, all songs from the 1920’s-1960’s. Emmy Rossum brings her irrepressible personality and stellar voice to songs popularized by some of the most beloved artists of the last century — from Bessie Smith to Frank Sinatra, from Judy Garland to Connie Francis, from Eddie Cantor to Edith Piaf. Emmy Rossum made this album into a music calendar, a song for every month.
“Sentimental Journey” is a popular 1944 song by Les Brown and His Band of Renown, with Doris Day as vocalist. The song’s release coincided with the end of WWII in Europe and became the unofficial homecoming theme for many veterans.

I without a doubt love this album! It’s great to listen to to set the mood, apply makeup and do your hair even to relax. It’s a beautiful tribute to such amazing artist and as a girl who is in love with the 1920’s-1950’s. I find it very calming and this music makes me feel peaceful. I surely can appreciate this album wholeheartedly.
With Love,
Ashley Von Cat
